When it comes to home decor, Venetian blinds might not seem versatile enough to be used in every room, but is this true? While some interior decoration specialist might say this, it is a fact that the majority do in fact believe that Venetian blinds can be used in almost every room in the house.
As the name suggests, Venetian blinds came about in or around Venice in the 1800s (although it is conjectural) and since then they have become commonplace in homes around the world. They are one of the few window inventions that can in reality control the amount of light entering a room to an almost total degree. Different materials and designs might be more adept at different aspects of blind use - for example some materials may be better at keeping light out when totally shut.
The main materials used in the construction of blinds today are aluminum and PVC. While wood is also used in this design, it is more often than not referred to as 'wooden blinds'. You can also buy full-fabric Venetian blinds.
Full fabric blinds are great for the living room and for bedrooms, but they are not ideal for the kitchen environment - where a regular amount of moisture, smoke and heat may well have a detrimental effect on the fabric of the blinds. PVC or aluminum would be preferable in this room.
For the living room, fabric-based Venetian blinds might be a good idea. They come in a wide variety of colours, so that they can blend in with an existing décor or be fully controllable in the implementation of a new décor.
These products offer a level of versatility that curtains cannot really achieve - but you have to bear in mind that due to their construction they pick up dust and dirt substantially more frequently than curtains do. But the fact that when it is bright you can control to an exacting degree how much light enters - or when it is dull outside you can let as much natural light in as possible - makes Venetian blinds a popular option.
For children's rooms too, these kind of blinds are ideal. Aluminum blinds keep the heat out when it is sunny and keep the heat in when it is colder outside.
Barring the bathroom perhaps, Venetian blinds can used to good effect in almost any part of your house or flat - combining functionality and visual appeal in a way that few other window dressings can.
